Pambula Tennis Club

The next Annual General Meeting of the Pambula Tennis Club Inc will be held on Wednesday 5 AUGUST 2009 at 7pm in the clubhouse in Toallo Street.

The purpose of the meeting will be to read the minutes of the previous AGM, receive the Committee’s report and the Treasurer’s Financial Statement for the preceding financial year, elect office bearers and to ask members to consider the following special resolutions:

1. to increase membership fees to $40 for adults and $20 for juniors under 18;

2. to adopt the model rules of association from the Office of Fair Trading dated December 2007;

3. to adopt modifications to these rules as outlined in the Draft Rules of the Association dated 25 June 2009.

The objectives of the club remain unchanged. You can download a copy of the Draft Rules and a copy of the Notes on the proposed changes or they can be obtained from the Secretary.

At least two members of the committee have indicated they will not be re-standing, so please consider nominating to become a committee member of your tennis club this year! You can download Committee nomination forms and proxy voting forms of they can be obtained from the Secretary. Nomination forms must be received by the Secretary 7 days prior to the AGM and proxy forms 1 day before the AGM. Nominations may be made at the AGM for any positions for which no nomination has been received.

The next Spring Night Comp will commence on Monday 31 AUGUST 2009 at 6 pm with a registration night, barbecue, social tennis and presentation of trophies to winners and runners up from the Autumn Comp. Intending players MUST register by 31 August to be placed in a team for the competition.

Matches start at 6pm on MONDAY 7 SEPTEMBER and will finish on the second last Monday of the school term (7 December). The format will be the same as the autumn comp (ie teams of 2, each player plays 1 singles and 2 doubles sets per night). Membership and ball fees are payable by week 2 of the comp.

The kids comp which was to have started in Term 2 has been postponed due to lack of numbers.

We’ll try again in Term 4 when the weather is better and there is less competition from winter sports!

Pambula Tennis Club started the 2009 season with a family fun tennis evening and presentation night on Monday 16 February. Around 30 people brought their racquets along to enjoy an evening of free tennis. A sausage sizzle was enjoyed by all and we kicked off our fundraising raffle.

The club is hoping that families who’ve been watching the great tennis action on TV from the Austraian Open will be inspired to have a go and get into tennis this year. Players of all standards are welcome to join our club.

The winners and runners up of the club’s Spring 2008 night competition who were present received their trophies on the night. Congratulations to Frank Davey and Sam Slessar (A grade winners), Leon Nunn and Merlene Veness (runners up), Simon Potter and Jake Taylor (B grade winners) and Monique Nobbs and Nathan Wu (rinners up).

Women’s social tennis is held on Thursday mornings at 10:00am during school terms only.

Cost: $1 per session. Bring your racquet, water bottle, sun protection and have some fun. Play as you can - no need to commit to come every week.
